Choice Hour

What is Choice Hour?

Choice Hour is a program that aims to provide students with a range of opportunities for enrichment and learning beyond the regular school day. It offers various activities and classes in subjects such as academics, academic competitions, academic support, technology, fine arts, the arts, clubs, community service, physical fitness, and sports. These options are available to students for a period of 8-10 weeks and are taught by a diverse group of educators, including trusted BPS teachers, parents, alumni, and members of the community.

Placement of Students In Classes

There are several highly popular courses among BCS students. The allocation of classes is not based on a first-come, first-served basis. Instead, a fair and equal opportunity for all students who submit their online selections before the specified deadline is ensured by following certain steps each quarter.

  1. All students who complete their selections before the due date are initially given their first choice for all days requested.

  2. Any class that goes over the maximum number of students goes to a lottery.

  3. Students who did not make the lottery are given their second or third choice, depending on class availability. A very small percentage of students are given their fourth or fifth choice, depending on availability.

  4. Students who attended a lottery class the previous quarter are automatically excluded from the lottery process and given another choice. This is done so as many students as possible have the opportunity to attend these lottery classes.

  5. Students who did not give three or more choices on their selection sheets will have their class selected for them.

Things to Know:

Choice Hour Quarter IV (April 8th-June 4th)

Interested students must submit the online application form no later than Monday, April 1st to avoid missing the established deadline.

Competitive Sports

Students interested in competing in one of our two winter athletic sessions must also be enrolled in choice hour. Swim and volleyball are two of a student's three days of choice hour selections. Please refer to our athletics page for additional details, schedules and follow instructions to complete athletic registration in addition to signing up.

Schedules will be posted at the school and distributed throughout homerooms on the first day of Choice Hour.

Change Request

There is a limited change period for Quarter 4. Extenuating drops and adds can be made through Friday, April 19. After that date, no refunds will be issued.

If a student is unable to attend the program's required number of days, then they will need to apply for a waiver.
