We are excited to announce that the BCS Chess Club is open for sign-ups for the winter 2025 season! Chess is more than just a game—it’s a fantastic way for students to develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and strategic planning while having fun and making new friends.

The BCS Chess Club is open to students in grades 3 through 8 and welcomes players of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced competitors. Our club will meet regularly each Wednesday after choice hour for engaging activities, friendly matches, and opportunities to participate in tournaments.

BPS Girls in STEM events give girls additional fun and exciting STEM experiences outside of the school day. Middle school girls can join these events whenever it fits their schedule. No prior experience is needed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION

MP is a program of interactive problem-solving games, supportive curricular and instructional activities, and assessment tools for students grades 3-5. This motivational program strengthens basic math concepts and skills, aligns with National and State Mathematics Standards, and stimulates creative thinking while developing problem-solving skills. A focus on conceptual understanding and the integration of spatial, computational and logical reasoning are key attributes of Math Pentathlon. By using specially designed games and activities that differentiate instruction, all students are motivated to enjoy math!

BCS is excited to offer a New Lego Robotics experience starting this November.

We will be creating teams of 4-5 with automated Lego Robotics:  Lego Mindstorm Spike Prime sets.

BCS Robotics provides an exciting opportunity for all of our students to become involved and explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math through the use of Lego elements and programmable robots.

Students will compete in the:

FLLE EXPLORE

FIRST LEGO League Explore gives 6- 10 year old students and their adult coaches the opportunity to work and create together while they explore science and technology concepts.

FIRST Lego League Explore (FLLE)

• Students build a LEGO model that incorporates a programmable robot with motor and sensors
• Teams create a poster to showcase the development of their team and ideas

• BCS FLL Jr teams meet once a week starting this November and share their work at a local spring Expo:  Robofest.

At least one parent per student is required to support team operations as a Coach or Mentor.

FLLC CHALLENGE

FIRST LEGO League Challenge creates a world where 9 - 14 year old students meet science and technology and want more. Where obstacles and challenges are eagerly met. Where gaining confidence and life skills are by-products of a good time.

FIRST Lego League Challenge (FLLC)

• FLL Teams use LEGO Prime kits to customize a robot using sensors and motors to complete missions on a playing field.
• Students will share their project and compete with their robot against other teams at local Qualifying Events

• BCS FLL teams meet once a week starting in November and compete at the Robofest in the spring.

At least one parent per student is required to support team operations as a Coach or Mentor.
